What is
Masseter Botox?
A muscle-based approach to the jaw.
Masseter treatment uses botulinum toxin in the chewing muscle at the side of the jaw. It is sometimes considered for prominent muscle bulk; this is an off-label use and is different from adding jawline filler.
A broad lower face may reflect bone, fat, muscle or a combination. Jaw pain or teeth grinding also needs appropriate dental or medical assessment, rather than assuming a cosmetic injection is the answer.

Reduce activity in a selected muscle.
Botulinum toxin temporarily reduces contraction in the treated masseter. A contour change, if it occurs, develops as the muscle responds over time.
The assessment should consider chewing strength, bite, neighboring smile muscles and the possibility of a less defined appearance if muscle volume decreases.
During your appointment
- Assess. Your provider examines the muscle during clenching and discusses symptoms and prior dental care.
- Plan. Discuss the off-label use, alternatives and the expected effect on function.
- Review. Review comfort, chewing and appearance as the response develops.
