IPL uses broad-spectrum light for selected pigment and redness concerns. Laser resurfacing uses laser energy to treat skin. The exact device, your skin and whether the goal is tone or texture shape the choice.
IPL uses a range of wavelengths, while a laser uses a specific wavelength. Revival’s resurfacing menu and IPL menu describe different treatment options. The device name alone is not enough: ask which handpiece, treatment area and settings your provider is considering.
02 / MAKING THE DISTINCTION
Identify the visible concern.
Are you noticing uneven colour, a change in the surface, or both? Ask which part of the concern each proposed procedure would address. Some marks require diagnosis before cosmetic care. An assessment can also identify when skincare, a different procedure or referral belongs before a device treatment.
THE APPROACHES, EXPLAINED
Different methods. Different roles.
These options are a starting point for a conversation. Your assessment may suggest one approach, a staged combination or a different form of care.
01 / M22 / LIGHT TREATMENT
IPL photofacial
IPL uses pulses of filtered, broad-spectrum light to address selected pigment or vascular concerns. It is not a laser and does not treat every brown mark, red area or type of discoloration in the same way.
Recovery to plan for
Redness, swelling or a temporary darkening of treated pigment can occur. Avoid picking and follow the instructions provided. Blistering or worsening pain needs review.
What to expect
Pigment and redness may respond on different timelines. A series may be considered, but treatment count and maintenance should follow the response and underlying cause.
Fractional resurfacing treats microscopic zones of skin while leaving surrounding areas untreated. Different lasers act at different depths; ablative and non-ablative treatments have distinct recovery and risk profiles.
Recovery to plan for
Redness, swelling, dryness or a rough texture may follow treatment. Recovery differs substantially by device and settings; get an individual timeline before scheduling around an event.
What to expect
Any change in texture develops through the healing and remodeling process. Deeper scars may need a broader treatment plan, and complete removal is not promised.
Your natural skin tone, recent sun exposure and past pigment reactions matter. Explain any upcoming travel and the amount of recovery time you can realistically accommodate. Request written preparation and aftercare for the particular procedure; do not assume a friend’s recovery will match yours.
04 / MAKING THE DISTINCTION
Understand a combined recommendation.
A combined plan should explain why both treatments are needed, the sequence and the total cost. Ask whether starting with one and reviewing the response would be reasonable. More devices in a package do not automatically make it a better plan.
YOUR PLAN AT REVIVAL
Make the next step an informed one.
01
Understand the starting point.
Share previous procedures, reactions and the change you have in mind. Your clinician reviews your history and examines the area before recommending treatment.
02
Agree on the scope.
Ask which product or device is proposed, why it fits your goal and what alternatives exist. Confirm the number of visits, recovery arrangements and full estimate.
03
Review the response.
Allow the appropriate recovery time before judging the result. Discuss how progress will be recorded and when to review whether further treatment is worthwhile.
Understand the investment.
Compare the same treatment scope. Signature and Reserve offer preferred rates; membership fees and treatment charges are separate.
No. Ask for the actual technology rather than relying on a broad marketing name.
Do I need both?
Not necessarily. A combined recommendation should have a clear purpose for each step.
Is IPL a laser?
No. IPL uses a range of wavelengths with filters; a laser works differently.
Is every resurfacing treatment the same?
No. The device, wavelength, treatment depth and whether it is ablative materially change the procedure.
Can it treat melasma?
Melasma needs careful assessment. Light-based treatment is not appropriate for every case and can worsen pigment in some people.
Does the M22 name guarantee ResurFX is included?
No. M22 is a platform with different modules. Confirm the exact treatment with Revival.
Can I have treatment with a tan?
Recent tanning changes the risk. Tell your provider about sun exposure and self-tanning products before booking.
What is recovery like after an IPL photofacial?
Redness, swelling or a temporary darkening of treated pigment can occur. Avoid picking and follow the instructions provided. Blistering or worsening pain needs review.
What will my treatment cost?
Ask Revival for the current price for your treatment area and proposed plan. We will discuss the product or device, what is included and any applicable membership terms before you choose.
